Environment Canada is commemorating what began right here in Windsor 25 years ago: CanWarn.
At this year's training session on Tuesday, April 17th, Environment Canada recognized the efforts of local hams who were instrumental in creating a partnership with Amateur Radio operators and other volunteers in this area 25 years ago. Their idea gave birth to the Canwarn program which has now spread all across Canada.
Certificates and a portable weather alert radio were given to the following persons:
- Paul Robertson
- Bill Leal, VE3ES
- Jerry Beneteau, VE3EXT

Founding member and longtime presenter of Canwarn training sessions Randy Mawson, VE3TRW, also announced that this would be his last ever Canwarn session in Windsor, as he is retiring from Environment Canada later this year.
Everyone ever involved in Canwarn is grateful for the contributions made by Randy over the last quarter century, and we wish him all the very best in his retirement.
Congratulations to Paul, Bill and Jerry as well.

Welcome to the new BCRC Home Page!
This new page is an interactive page, utilizing the power of Joomla software. That means, rather than simply being a page with words and pictures and links, it gives YOU, the registered user, the means to create and submit your own content. This can be YOUR page also.
Many thanks to Ken, VA3ETR
Ken Garber is a longtime member of the BCRC club, and a thankless webmaster for the BCRC website. He has given up his time and expertise for many years to host and maintain the club's home on the net. He has decided to retire as our webmaster effective the end of 2010. We wish to thank Ken for his countless hours of work in maintaining the club's site for many years.
MEETINGS
We meet once a month on the third Monday of each month (except holidays, and the months of July, August and December) at the Canada South Science City, 930 Marion St., Windsor (near Erie St.). Come in the main entrance, as that will be the only door unlocked. Guests are welcome. New members are even MORE welcome! You need not be a licensed Amateur Radio operator to join the club, however, if you are interested in becoming a licensed operator, please contact us, as we do hold courses to help new hams become licensed.

Live Swap Listings
You'll notice on the left of this page is an applet showing our "Swap and Shop" items. This listing is pulled automatically from our Swap and Shop section of the Forums. What that means is, as soon as someone posts a new item for sale or a new want on our Swap page, it will show up automatically in that applet.
It uses technology known as Really Simple Syndication (RSS). It's a means of seeing updates to a page as-they-happen.
At the bottom left of this page, you'll also see a link to "Feed Entries." That shows the RSS feed of this page. As updates are made to this page, that feed is updated.
Those of you who have a website of your own, (or who might be considering having one), could add this same "live feed" to your site. That way, anybody viewing your site can get a glimpse of the swap items listed in our swap as well. Just another way to draw visitors to your site.
For more info on RSS, try Google. There's a wealth of information available on it. I will also be putting some information on how to "subscribe to a feed" on our forum.
New Image posting size limit
As per our discussion at our last meeting, I've initiated a size limit on all picture attachments. The limit is set to 1000x1000 pixels. To give you an idea of how big that is, take a look at your current screen resolution on your computer. Many of you will be running a resolution of 1024x768 or higher. That 1024x768 is the number of pixels your screen will display at that setting. We're allowing a maximum of 1000x1000 for an attached picture, so that should be plenty.
New Website Banner
Did you notice it? Do you like it? Tell us what you think. Can also be seen on our forums.
New Social Media buttons
Some of you have Facebook or Twitter accounts. You'll notice there are buttons below each article that now let you "share" or "like" the articles here on your Facebook or Twitter or Google + pages, if you have one. Spread the word!
